am I correct in understanding that these boxes seem to be designed to work in an end point to end point type configuration, say once branch office to another, across the net, and not use an ITSP? or server in between?
Usually ports are the equivalent of simultaneous connnections.
DIDs aren't usually tied to a specific port.
Whether outgoing calls take up a port depends on the provider.
